Hamadan
province
Hamadan
province is located in the west part of Iran.
This
province is bounded on the north by Zanjan province, on
the south by Lorestan province, on the east by Markazi province, and
on the west by Kermanshah and Kurdistan provinces.
Hamadan
is one of the mountainous provinces of Iran. The highest point in this
province is the Alvand peak, 3574 meters high.
The
major cities of the province are
Malayer, Nahavand, Twiserkan, Kabutarahang, and Assadabad.

Hamadan
Hamadan
( Hemedan ) is the capital of the province and dating back to 2500
years ago, it was the capital of Achaemenian, Parthian, and Assassins.
Heroduts,
the Greek Historian, called it Hegmataneh or Ekbatan. During Seiljuk
period it was the capital of Iran for 50 years.
Hamadan
is located in a distance of 336 kilometers from
Tehran.
Hamadan
is a city of mild climate in summer,
its natural beauty including Mount Alvand and its beautiful
pick as Morad Baig and Abbas-abad valleys will always be remembered by
visitors.

In
this ancient city remains have been unearthed in archeological
excavation of Median and Achaemenid castles, forts, and cities on
the hills of Hegmataneh and Mossala. The objects unearthed in
those sites, like tablets, gold and silver plates, and tools are
now in great museums. Yet, there are plenty of other historical
monuments and places to be visited by everybody.

The
Stone Lion (The Stony Lion): is a big Parthian monument that
was originally made like a lion. It is believed that once there
was a counterpart for this monument.
Avicenna
Memorial Tomb: The tomb of the great Iranian scientist, which
was built in 1954. The design of the dome is inspired by the shape
of Qabous Voshmgir tower. There is a library with a number of
manuscripts in this building.

Baba-Taher
Memorial Tomb: The tomb of the writer of many romantic
couplets is in Hamadan. The great mystic tomb has been built in a
beautiful park in recent years. |
The
Ganjnameh Epigraphs: Most tourists express their interests to
see the Ganjnameh epigraphs . These are two inscriptions which
were written on a rocky wall on Alvand Mountain by king
Darius's command during the Achaemenian period, they are
located in a beautiful valley which is called Abbas-Abad.
The
Alavid Dome: This is the burial place of two of
alaviyans. While Kufic inscriptions adorn the exterior, fine stucco works cover
all the interior walls of this monument. The erection of this
structure, which is considered as one of the most important
Islamic buildings, is attributed to the 6th. centuries
AH.
The
tomb of Esther and Mordecai:
These are the tombs of the two Jewish people whose names
appear in the old Testament. The building made with bricks and
stone on the graveyard of Khashayarshah's wife " Esther
" and her uncle " Mordecai ". There are antique
wooden boxes and manuscripts of the Old Testament inside the
building.
