Neyshabur
Neyshabur
located within 110 Km of Mashhad, is a city which has, over the
course of history, witnessed many vicissitudes. This once one of the
most populous and flourishing cities of Iran, has tasted both the
joy of grandeur and the agony of destruction. But, nevertheless, the
present-day Neyshabur besides its reputation for a long historical
background and immaculate turquoise gemstones, it embraces the tombs
of such great men as Omar Khayyam, Sheikh Attar and Kamal-ol-Molk.
Every
year, many enthusiasts of these celebrated personalities are
attracted to their burial sites, in old and beautiful gardens of
Neyshabur, to show their respect to their memories.
The
tom of Imam Zadeh Mahroq, one of the important shrines of Neyshabur,
and a hill known as Alp-Arsalan include some of the other spots of
Neyshabur worth visiting.

Tus
The
small town of Tus located about 25 KM (16 miles ) north of Mashad,
was once the regional capital. Today it is best known, to most
Iranian, as home town of the poet Ferdowsi, the author of the epic Shah
Nameh.
|
His
mausoleum was built in 1933 to celebrate the 1000th
anniversary of the poet death a year later.
The
over all shape of Ferdowsi tomb is reminiscent of the mausoleum of
Cyrus the Great at Passargadae, and in a room underneath the tomb,
there are a series of modern bas-relief's illustrating
a few episodes from SHAH
NAMAH. |
